How A Mompreneur Records Podcast Episodes While Doing Laundry (and Why It Works So Well for Busy Moms)

If as a mompreneur you’ve ever waited for the perfect quiet moment to record your podcast episode, this one’s for you.

Because let’s be honest, those perfect moments don’t really exist for moms who are juggling kids, housework, clients, and about forty-seven tabs open in their brain.

That’s why most of my podcast ideas don’t start behind a microphone. They start while I’m folding laundry.

Yes, really. The one you’re listening to right now started exactly that way. I was standing in front of the dryer, no script, no editing, just talking out loud about something that had been sitting in my head all week. Later, I took that rough ramble and turned it into a real podcast episode with a little help from AI.

And friend, it’s so much simpler than you might think.

1. Capture the Idea, Even if It’s Messy

Here’s the truth: I don’t wait for the perfect environment or a polished outline. I grab my phone, open the voice recorder app, and hit record.

It’s not fancy. It’s usually me in the middle of a load of laundry or driving to town, talking out loud to myself.

You’ll hear me say things like, “Wait, no, that’s not what I meant,” or “Scratch that idea.” And that’s totally fine.

The goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to capture the idea while it’s fresh. Because if I wait too long, I’ll overthink it and talk myself out of it completely.

If you’re like me and process ideas by talking them through, this method is a total game changer. It helps keep the creativity alive instead of stifling it with too much planning on the front end.

2. Let AI Help You Organize It

Once I’ve got my messy recording, I use the transcript feature in my recorder app. I use Google Recorder, but iPhone has great options too.

Then I take that transcript and drop it into ChatGPT with a simple prompt like:

“I'm going to share with you a very rough draft of a podcast transcript where I just kind of rambled and I want you to take it and without rephrasing or rewording or removing any of my ideas help me clean it up a little bit to where it can be a podcast episode that flows better. But it is super important that you leave all the details and all the ideas intact so that it is my original content.”

That’s it.

AI doesn’t replace my words. It simply helps organize my thoughts into something cohesive so that when I sit down to record the final version, it actually makes sense.

I can edit little things here and there, tweak the phrasing if needed, but the core message stays completely mine.

3. Record the Final Version Without Overthinking It

Once the script feels right, I re-record the final version with my microphone.

By this point, the hard part is already done. I’m not wasting time starting and stopping a dozen times, trying to find the “perfect” take.

Instead, I’m reading from something that already reflects my real voice, and it flows naturally because it started from a genuine conversation with myself.

This process has saved me so much time. With homeschooling, farm life, and running multiple businesses, I don’t have hours to spare trying to make every word perfect.

Now, I can record faster, feel more confident, and actually enjoy the process again.

4. Why This Works So Well for Moms

The beauty of this approach is that you can do it anywhere. Laundry, dishes, car rides, even the school pickup line. When inspiration hits, just hit record.

You’ll capture the thought before you have time to overthink it.

Some of my most meaningful podcast episodes and client insights came from these spur-of-the-moment recordings, not planned-out scripts. The realness and imperfection are what make them powerful.

So don’t stifle your creativity by waiting for the perfect conditions. Just start. Record it, ramble it, and then let AI help you pull it together later.

Because here’s what I believe: your voice matters. Even if you’re folding laundry, your words can still reach people who need to hear them.

So grab your phone, hit record, and start talking. Messy ideas are still worth sharing. 💛
